Las Vegas Casinos Post-Pandemic: What to Expect

The pandemic caused significant losses for most major casinos worldwide. The first to suffer were casinos in Macau, which showed a record drop in revenue due to the pandemic. In late March, the governor of Nevada closed all gaming establishments in the state.

Recently, Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman called on the US government to ease quarantine restrictions and allow gaming establishments in Las Vegas and Nevada to operate. Synergy Blue Director @JoeTall posted a video on Twitter showing how poker tables in Las Vegas casinos might look in the future, with plexiglass barriers between players and the dealer, and additional barriers between players.

Some players said that while these measures would not protect against the coronavirus, they would at least slow the spread. Others joked about the new measures, with one Twitter user saying, "Making bets. How many times a day will some drunk guy approach the table thinking he's in the bathroom."

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
