Kentucky Court Orders Amaya to Pay $870 Million Fine for PokerStars
On November 20, 2015, Judge Thomas Wingate of Kentucky ordered Amaya to pay a $290 million fine for illegal PokerStars activity in the state from 2006 to 2011. The Poker Players Alliance (PPA) claimed to represent 14,000 Kentucky players who made deposits on PokerStars, arguing that the $290 million should go to the players, not the state treasury.
On December 23, 2015, the same judge increased the fine to $870 million under an act from the Abraham Lincoln era, which allows for triple damages. The PokerStars Caribbean Adventure series will feature a blackjack tournament with a $500 buy-in and a $100,000 guarantee, starting on January 8, 2016.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
