Journalist Wins Poker Tournament Using Bot, Sparks Outrage
Journalist Hayden Vernon conducted an experiment to raise awareness about poker bots, not to make money. He deposited £10 in the bet365 poker room and registered for a £1 buy-in tournament. Thanks to the bot, Vernon won the tournament, earning £220. Over a hundred poker players participated in the tournament.
The next day, Vernon tested the bot on PartyPoker, but it started losing. The experiment ended when Vernon's balance reached zero.
Poker players, including ME WSOP-C winner Jayon Wheeler and PartyPoker Live Millions UK champion Brandon Shiels, criticized Vernon for his experiment. Wheeler expressed disappointment that such material was published, while Shiels called Vernon a 'real scumbag' and said the experiment should not have been done.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
