Jay-Z and Fanatics Team Up to Challenge Sports Betting Giants in New York
Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Corey Carter, is collaborating with Michael Rubin of Fanatics to open a sportsbook in New York. The Grammy-award winning rapper is hoping to secure a sports betting license in New York, aiming to compete with major players like FanDuel, DraftKings, and BetMGM.
Fanatics Sportsbook will have Michael Rubin as its CEO and Jay-Z as vice chairman. The new entity will be up against several existing sports betting giants, including DraftKings, BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook, WynnBET, and FanDuel itself.
Jay-Z is the only African American with a license submission currently being considered by New York's gaming board. If successful, Fanatics Sportsbook will be based in New York City and is expected to hire a diverse staff, reflecting Jay-Z's commitment to diversity and inclusion, as seen with his company Roc Nation.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
