Jason Kun: Poker Legend Reflects on Career, Rivals, and Industry

Jason Kun, a poker legend, has made a significant mark in the poker world. He ranks third in the HendonMob leaderboard with $66.6 million in career earnings. Kun has won 12 titles at Triton tournaments, more than any other player, and currently represents PokerStars, promoting the brand on the American market.

Kun believes his friend Steven Chidwick will eventually become the top earner in poker. "For me, it's obvious that someday he will become the first, it's inevitable," Kun said. "He plays a lot and still loves poker. It seems he can't get enough of the game." Kun's first major win was in the Sunday Storm tournament, where he won around $40k in a single day.

Kun also has high praise for Isaiah Sheinberg, believing he deserves to be in the Poker Hall of Fame. "I think he deserves it, there's nothing to discuss here," Kun said. "He not only changed the lives of millions when Moneymaker qualified through a satellite for the main tournament, but also bought out Full Tilt's debts during the most difficult period for poker." Kun appreciates the nostalgic feelings PokerStars evokes and the brand's rich history. "PokerStars holds a special place in my heart and evokes nostalgic feelings," Kun said. "It is one of the few truly historic brands in poker with a long history of correct actions." Kun hopes to have the opportunity to play with Monarch in a high-stakes match. "I would be ready to invest at least half of myself if he agreed to play SNG for $2 million," Kun said. Kun believes that genuine joy for opponents' successes is a superpower in poker. "I am not one of those people who are focused on self-development," Kun said. "I just talk about what has really positively influenced my life and career."

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
