Japanese Man Loses Entire Town's COVID Relief Funds to Online Gambling
In a shocking turn of events, a 24-year-old man from Japan, Sho Taguchi, has been arrested for gambling away an entire town's COVID relief funds. The incident occurred in the town of Abu, in western Japan.
The total amount of money lost was 46 million yen, approximately $360,000. These funds were intended to support 460 low-income families in the town. Taguchi was included in the list of recipients but decided to gamble away all the money on foreign online gambling platforms.
When authorities realized the funds were missing, they discovered that Taguchi had already lost everything. He was promptly arrested by local police for embezzling the relief funds meant for approximately 3,300 people, with each person supposed to receive around 780$.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
