High-Stakes Poker: June-July 2014 Recap
The high-stakes poker scene in June and July 2014 was marked by the absence of key players due to the World Series of Poker (WSOP). Phil Ivey, Gus Hansen, Patrick Antonius, Tom Dwan, and numerous Chinese businessmen spent nearly two months in Las Vegas. Phil Ivey contributed $1,000,000 for the bail of Richard Yong and his son, while Daniel Cates added $1,000,000.
Victor Bloom skipped the WSOP entirely, preferring to spend his summer in Sweden and enjoy the World Cup. In a recent interview, he mentioned that his longest session lasted 48 hours and highlighted the importance of bankroll management. Isildur1 had a strong start to June, winning over $1,000,000 in the first two days, with significant wins against Sauce1234 and no_Ola.
SanIker faced significant losses in June, including a $320,643 loss to Denoking in a 3.5-hour session. Samrostan returned to online poker on July 14 and played against Trueteller, winning $47k and $308k in different games. Thecortster had a significant losing streak, reaching $625k in losses over a week, but managed to win $212.4k on July 21.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
