Hank Azaria’s Charity Poker Game Shines Amid Gaming Industry Woes

In a challenging start to the year for traditional casinos, online gaming continues to attract players. One bright spot is Hank Azaria’s online home game for charity. The Simpsons actor has launched Hank’s Home Game on PokerStars, where players compete for play money that PokerStars will convert into real money for charity. The game features a star-studded lineup, including Don Cheadle, Jon Hamm, Michael Ian Black, Josh Charles, and Michael Cera.

Azaria expressed his delight in working with PokerStars on this charitable series. PokerStars’ PR Director Rebecca McAdam Willetts hopes the series provides much-needed entertainment for viewers at home.

Meanwhile, land-based casinos in Vegas and Macau are facing significant revenue declines. The Nevada Gaming Control Board reported a 35.35% decrease in gaming win for December 2020 compared to the same period in 2019. Macau, too, saw a 60% drop in revenues for December, marking the 12th consecutive month of such declines. Despite a recent rise in Covid-19 cases, Chinese New Year is expected to boost figures, though not as much as hoped.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
