Online Poker Experts Discuss the Impact of GTO Wizard and Late Registration

In a recent discussion, poker experts Matt Berki, Patrick Leonard, and Landon Tice delved into the evolving landscape of online poker, particularly focusing on the impact of software tools like GTO Wizard and late registration strategies.

Matt Berki highlighted that software tools like GTO Wizard are becoming increasingly prevalent, used to analyze specific tournament situations. This trend is leading to a greater reliance on preflop charts, which are becoming more influential in decision-making.

Patrick Leonard suggested that late registration in online MTTs can significantly increase a player's $/hour due to the presence of cheaters. He advises that learning preflop charts and registering late can be an effective strategy. Leonard also proposed changing tournament structures to encourage postflop play and reduce the impact of preflop software.

Matt Berki questioned whether making GTO Wizard less accessible would solve the problem of cheating in online poker. He mentioned that the concept of a 'fish' in online and offline poker has changed significantly, with some recreational players now using software to improve their game.

Dominik Nitsche tweeted that banning players suspected of using software like GTO Wizard would eliminate 'fish' from poker rooms. However, Patrick Leonard disagreed with this definition, noting that most recreational players do not use such software. Landon Tice suggested that Nitsche's definition of 'fish' might refer to poor regulars rather than recreational players.

Matt Berki argued that the use of software like GTO Wizard affects the overall expectation of players in online poker. Patrick Leonard noted that push-fold charts have become more relevant due to changes in tournament structures, and knowing preflop play in stacks less than 20BB can be very advantageous in online tournaments.
