Gambling Industry Poised for Significant Growth by 2025
The global gambling market is on the cusp of substantial growth, with projections indicating a 7.4% increase in 2024, pushing the market from €505 billion to €543 billion. This upward trajectory is expected to continue, with the market potentially reaching €696 billion by 2033.
The online gambling segment is also set to mirror this trend, with revenue forecasted to grow to €94 billion in 2024. This segment is anticipated to maintain an annual growth rate of 6.2% through 2029. In contrast, the Dutch online gambling market has shown a varied growth pattern, particularly post-implementation of the Remote Gambling Act in 2021. The Dutch Gambling Authority (Ksa) has estimated an average annual growth of 8% over the next five years, despite potential challenges arising from restrictive measures. Other estimates suggest a more conservative growth rate of 5.29%.
Significant markets such as the United Kingdom, Germany, and France dominate the European gambling landscape. In the UK, approximately 23.6 million residents engaged in gambling activities at least once. In Germany, about 30% of the population aged 16 to 70 gambled annually as of 2021. France recorded approximately 27 million gamblers in 2023, reflecting a 6% increase from 2022. The Ksa estimates that around 736,000 players engaged in online casino activities in the first half of 2023, decreasing slightly to 676,000 in the latter half. These disparities highlight the need for a comprehensive understanding of player behavior in various jurisdictions, as differing regulations and market maturity levels significantly impact gambling habits.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
