Galen Hall's WSOP 2012 Backing Deals Spark Controversy
Galen Hall, a prominent poker player, made headlines with his backing deals for the 2012 World Series of Poker (WSOP). Hall, who began his poker career in January 2010, quickly rose through the ranks, earning significant winnings in both online and offline tournaments. His impressive results include winning the main tournament at PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in January 2011, where he earned a prize of $2,000,000.
Hall's success continued with a third-place finish in the WPT Championship, which had a $25,000 buy-in, winning $589,355. His total offline winnings amount to $3.6 million. Hall's backing deals for the 2012 WSOP were offered on the 2+2 forum, with coefficients ranging from 1.0 to 1.85. The deals sparked controversy within the poker community, with some praising Hall's confidence in his abilities, while others criticized the high coefficients.
Despite the mixed reactions, all of Hall's backing deals were sold out by June 10, 2012. However, the controversy did not end there. Ryan Daut, a well-known online and offline poker professional, criticized Hall's backing deals, calling them the worst he had ever seen. Daut's comments added fuel to the ongoing debate about the ethics and viability of Hall's backing offers.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
