Poker Legend Gabe Kaplan Shares Insights from His Career and Iconic Interviews

Gabe Kaplan is a well-known figure in the poker world, particularly recognized for his commentary on the show High Stakes Poker. Beyond poker, Kaplan is also famous for his role in the 70s TV series Welcome Back, Kotter and his stand-up comedy performances.

Kaplan's poker career includes playing in high-stakes games with celebrities, notably the Big Hollywood Game. This game involved significant financial stakes and notable figures, including Brad Ruderman, a fraudster who lost millions in the game. Ruderman's involvement led to legal complications, with Kaplan having to pay $26,900 as part of a settlement.

In a recent tweet, Kaplan shared an interview he conducted in 1990 with poker legends Doyle Brunson, Stu Ungar, and Chip Reese. The interview provides a glimpse into the personalities and experiences of these poker greats. Stu Ungar, known for his volatile behavior at the poker table, was a two-time winner of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event. Chip Reese, recognized as one of the best all-around players, attributed his success to his ability to read people rather than formal education. Doyle Brunson, a two-time WSOP Main Event winner himself, revealed that he was once invited to try out for the Los Angeles Lakers but broke his leg before the opportunity.
