Eric Wasserson Wins Record-Breaking $2.5 Million Pot in High Stakes Poker

Eric Wasserson made poker history by winning the biggest pot in High Stakes Poker history, amounting to $2.5 million. The high-stakes poker game, part of a special seven-day series, had a $250,000 minimum buy-in, with blinds of $500/$1,000 and a $5,000 big-blind ante. The intense action saw two poker heavyweights, Eric Wasserson and Andrew Robl, battle it out.

Eric Wasserson raised to $20,000 from the button with A♦9♥ and $1.2 million in front of him. Michael Moncek called with 8♣5♣ and a stack of $1.1 million. Andrew Robl three-bet to $110,000 with J♦10♦ and a stack of $1.7 million. Wasserson four-bet to $280,000, and Robl went all-in after thinking a while. The pot grew to $599,000 after Robl called.

Wasserson was a 53% favorite to win the hand, with Robl at 46%. After the flop of 9♦7♠4♠, Wasserson stood at a 59% favorite. Robl's odds of winning were at 39%, with Wasserson at 61% after the turn brought the 3♦. Wasserson bet $200,000, and Robl quickly announced all in for what would be all of Wasserson’s remaining $740,000. The pot swelled to $2,478,000, the largest pot in the history of High Stakes Poker. Both players agreed to run the river twice, with the first bringing the 6♥, giving Wasserson the first half of the pot. The A♠ then fell on the second river, with Wasserson grabbing two pair to scoop the entire seven-figure sum.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
