EPT Open Sochi: Key Moments and Player Strategies
The EPT Open Sochi tournament closed registrations at 649 participants, with 273 players taking their seats on Day 2. The day began with the draw for a platinum package to the Bahamas, which was won by Eugene Sboev. There were 95 prize-winning places in the tournament.
Vitaly Avanesyan and Vadim Lipovka, both with short stacks, showed remarkable survival skills. They agreed to meet in the heads-up after both made it to the money. Vitaly Avanesyan continued playing with the seventh stack (800,000). He sold 10% of his stake in the tournament, receiving support from his partner, including massages and food.
Maxim Panyak transitioned to the third day with the fourth stack (980,000). He had a notable hand with Anatoly Korochensky, where he made a significant bluff. Nikita Kalinin, one of the chip leaders with the third stack (1,128,000), started playing poker professionally in May 2016. He joined MountainTeam in May 2017 and has since been a part of their training program.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
