EPT Open Sochi: Alexander Pygusov Reflects on His Poker Career
The EPT Open Sochi tournament started on the previous Friday. In the first multi-day tournament, participants made 75 entries for a prize pool of ₽70,000. The final table featured a star-studded lineup, with Alexander Pygusov and Anatoly Zyrin reaching the heads-up stage.
Alexander Pygusov began his poker career around 2008-2009 playing $1/$2 in Metelitsa. He started playing NL25 6-max and initially lost money, but improved after reading Ryan Fee's book. Pygusov transitioned to heads-up tables on PartyPoker and quickly progressed from NL100 to NL1k.
Pygusov mentioned that the rise of solvers and bots made heads-up games less profitable. He lost a significant amount of money to bots and advanced players, which led him to reconsider his strategy. Pygusov plans to try 6-max cash games and possibly spin games if heads-up games do not work out.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
