Doyle Brunson, Monks, and MIT Students: Unusual Poker News

Poker enthusiasts have been treated to a variety of intriguing news stories recently. One of the most notable figures in the poker world, Doyle Brunson, known affectionately as “Texas Dolly,” shared his thoughts on the recently concluded 2012 London Olympics. In his blog, Brunson expressed his enjoyment of the games, which wrapped up on August 12, 2012. He particularly empathizes with long-distance athletes, often feeling as if he is running alongside them. Brunson's past as an athlete in college and university adds a unique perspective to his comments, though his athletic career was unfortunately cut short by cancer that affected his leg.

In a surprising turn of events, a group of South Korean monks found themselves in hot water after being caught playing high-stakes poker, smoking, and drinking. The monks were fined $1,775 each, a relatively small amount considering the nearly $900,000 that was on the table during their game. The monk who recorded and reported the incident was expelled from the order for slander, violence, and misconduct.

Meanwhile, a group of students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) made headlines with their mathematical prowess. They developed a method to win the Cash Winfall lottery, earning over $8 million in the process. The governor of Massachusetts has since ordered the lottery to be discontinued after discovering that the company was aware of the students' winnings and did nothing to stop it.
