Douglas Polk's Epic Poker Challenges and Other Marathons
Douglas Polk, known as WCGRider, has made a name for himself with his daring poker challenges. In May 2008, he proposed a bet that he could win $10,000 playing NL25 within a month. The conditions were strict: 9-max tables at $0.10/$0.25 on PokerStars, with a requirement to win $10,000 in 31 days. Polk played approximately 260,000 hands and conceded defeat on the 18th day, citing several reasons for his failure, including regulars adapting to his play and issues with sleep.
In October 2013, Douglas Polk and Ben Sauce123 agreed to play 15,000 hands at $100/$200 with a side bet of $100,000. Polk, who was initially doubted by many, dominated the match from the start and won 37 buy-ins. His lead was consistent throughout the marathon, showcasing his exceptional skills and strategy.
Thomas Boku87, another notable poker player, proposed a bet in February 2009 that he could turn $100 into $10,000 playing low-limit SNGs within 15 days. He played 7,373 tournaments with a 15% ROI and won $10,017 during his marathon. In July 2009, Boku87 started a year-long marathon to turn $5 into $100,000, which he successfully completed by May 2010. His journey involved playing around 45,000 SNGs and utilizing bonuses and rakeback to reach his goal.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
