Douglas Polk Opens Temporary Mailbag for Poker Fans
Douglas Polk, known as WCGRider, is a leader in all head-to-head player rankings and a legend in online poker. He has agreed to answer questions from GipsyTeam readers until November 6, 2014.
Polk's biography reads like a poker player's dream. In 2007, he found himself with just $30 left to play poker. He created dozens of threads on the 2+2 forum asking questions about hands. He announced a marathon at NL25, aiming to win $10,000 in a month. He lived in Las Vegas, spending 5 nights a week in clubs. He was even hacked, losing a five-figure sum to an opponent who could see his cards. Despite these challenges, Polk challenged the most successful player of the year and dominated him in 15,000 hands. He published a ranking of the strongest high-stakes players, placing himself at the top. This summer, he won a bracelet at the World Series of Poker in a tournament with 1,473 participants.
Polk's temporary mailbag will be open until November 6, 2014. Fans can submit their questions, which will be translated and sent to Polk. He has promised to respond within a few days. Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
