Doug Polk's Poker Nightmare: Hacker Steals $35,000 in High-Stakes Game

Poker pro Doug Polk found himself in an unexpected and troubling situation on PokerStars. On March 26, while in Japan, Polk was playing high-stakes games when an opponent named Forbidden536 joined his $5/$10 table. Forbidden536, with a modest buy-in, turned $650 into $3,800 in a short span, displaying unusual playing patterns that Polk found concerning.

Forbidden536 proposed moving to a $25/$50 game, and Polk agreed. The high-stakes game continued with Forbidden536 winning $3,999.50 in a single hand against Polk. This victory raised Polk's suspicions, leading him to believe that Forbidden536 might be using unauthorized means to see his cards. Polk reported the incident to PokerStars, but the investigation took months. On June 26, PokerStars concluded that Forbidden536 likely saw Polk's cards during the game and refunded him $34,397.10.

Polk's suspicions extended to his friend Joshua Tyler, who had visited him around the time of the incident. Tyler, known for his IT skills, was suspected of being involved in the cheating. Polk's neighbors also reported losing significant amounts to similar opponents, further fueling his concerns. Despite the refund, the experience left Polk shaken and wary of future encounters.
