Doug Polk Eyes Austin for New Poker Room Venture
Doug Polk is considering opening a live poker room in Austin, Texas. The high-stakes poker pro retired from playing earlier this year and is now focused on expanding his business interests. Polk has already been out and about assessing the competition, and recently appeared in a Brad Owen YouTube vlog where they played some PLO together in an Austin card room.
Bart Hanson criticized the idea of Doug Polk opening a poker room in Austin. Hanson said it was a terrible idea, particularly in Polk’s new home of Austin, and he could provide plenty of reasons why. Polk said he DM’d him to discuss the matter but the pair were egged on to turn this into a podcast as this would be of interest to the community as a whole.
Doug Polk has secured the necessary funding and marketing expertise for the poker room. However, he is still looking for someone experienced in running a card room. Barry Carter of PokerStrategy might deserve a small award for predicting the future if it does all happen.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
