Dario Sammartino Reflects on His WSOP 2019 Main Event Journey
Dario Sammartino, the poker player who finished second in the 2019 WSOP Main Event, recently shared his experiences and insights from the tournament. Sammartino described the WSOP Main Event as a unique experience with a wide range of emotions and significant prize money.
Sammartino began his poker career in Naples at the age of 16-17, playing with friends and later in a small poker club. He won 60k in his first two sessions but was threatened and prevented from collecting his winnings. This experience led him to transition to online poker on PokerStars.it, where he became one of the most successful players.
During the 2019 WSOP Main Event, Sammartino played most of the tournament while sick with a fever and sore throat. In a crucial hand, the dealer miscounted Nick Marchington's stack, leading to a significant difference in the pot odds. Sammartino overtook his friend Mustafa Kanit in the list of the most successful Italian poker players.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
