Daniel Negreanu Faces Backlash After WSOP Main Event Winner Declared Invalid

Daniel Negreanu is facing criticism after the World Series of Poker (WSOP) declared that the 2020 Main Event winner is invalid. Stoyan Madanzhiev was declared the winner of the 2020 WSOP Main Event in July. Daniel Negreanu signed a certificate declaring Stoyan Madanzhiev as the 2020 WSOP Main Event champion.

The WSOP Main Event will take place in December 2020. Nick Jones, editor at Poker Industry Pro, pointed out that the WSOP always said the 'proper' series was postponed, not canceled. The December tournament will have a $10,000 buy-in with no rebuys.

WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart said there must be a World Champion in 2020. The final tables will take place at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on Monday, December 28th. GGPoker finalists will play it out at King’s Casino, Rozvadov, Czech Republic on Tuesday, December 15th. The winners of both final tables will meet for a final heads-up clash on Wednesday December 30th. Stoyan Madanzhiev pointed out that in some countries it is not possible to get a visa for the USA in a month.
