Daniel Negreanu's WSOP Main Event Dream Shattered by Brutal Cooler
Poker legend Daniel Negreanu's hopes for a deep run in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event were crushed when his pocket kings lost to pocket aces on day 1e. Negreanu was one of 797 players who paid the $10k buy-in for the biggest event of all, the fifth starting flight also including former champions Joe Hachem and Scott Blumstein.
Negreanu's 5-bet all-in with the red kings was called by Ayman Mahfoud with the black aces, and the flop all but sealed the GGPoker ambassador’s fate. The flop was 6♠ A♦ 8♣, the turn was 9♠ and the river was 7♣.
Chris Hunichen eliminated Ryan Leng and survived to day two. Hunichen had recently recovered from a bout of Covid and a subsequent Twitter spat with Justin Bonomo. A busy day at the table saw Hunichen KO Ryan Leng, another pro much in the news after a heads-up duel with Jungleman Dan Cates in that PPC tournament. A late big hit saw Hunichen thrown back into the chasing pack, but he’ll be around for day two.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
