Crypto Crash: Poker Players Face Millions in Losses
The cryptocurrency market has seen a significant downturn in recent months, with Bitcoin's value falling below $19K from its record high of $67K just a year ago. This decline has left many investors, including prominent poker players, facing substantial losses.
Doug Polk, a well-known figure in the poker community, has been a strong advocate for cryptocurrency investment. He has advised investors to allocate between 10-60% of their wealth into crypto, depending on their portfolio. Despite the current market conditions, Polk remains optimistic about the long-term value of Bitcoin and Ethereum, believing they will increase significantly over the next five years.
Another poker player significantly impacted by the crypto crash is Matt Kirk. Four years ago, Kirk was rumored to hold 66,000 bitcoin, which was worth $592,034,190 at the time. If he held onto his entire stash until the peak last year, it would have been worth $4.4 billion. Even with the current decline, Kirk's remaining holdings are still substantial, estimated to be around $1.25 billion.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
