Connecticut Man Faces Prison for Hiding Poker Winnings and Business Income
Guy Smith, a building contractor and part-time poker player from Milford, Connecticut, may face up to 30 months in prison for failing to declare over a million dollars in poker winnings and $482,000 from his business, Centerline Interiors. Smith won over a million dollars in poker tournaments around the US and in the Caribbean between 2012 and 2016. Smith ignored repeated warnings from the IRS to declare the income and pay the owed taxes and penalties, resulting in an IRS liability of roughly $820,000, including penalties and interest.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
