Chris Moneymaker Targeted with Death Threats After Poker Loss

Chris Moneymaker, the 2003 WSOP Main Event champion, received a death threat stating, 'I’m going to be in Vegas in June if I see you I’ll put a bullet in your head so stay the fuck away from me.' The threats were made by an angry online poker player who believed a bot was responsible for his losses. The player also threatened ACR founder Phil Nagy and ACR HQ with bombs. The threats were made on Twitter.

Moneymaker is not the only poker professional to receive death threats. In 2011, Michael Gallagher was jailed for three months after threatening staff at an Isle of Man registered site with a shotgun. Gallagher had lost £19,000 and demanded £30,000 as compensation, stating he would kill as many people as he could if he didn't receive it.

A sports lawyer stated that the threat was actionable and could lead to prosecution. Fans, friends, and colleagues of Moneymaker implored him to contact the police. Donna 'darkangel709' Morton, a moderator of several poker channels, tweeted, 'Report it to the Police! Don't even mess around. There's enough weirdo's out there already. Please stay safe and take this seriously.'
