Chad Brown: Poker Pro's Battle with Cancer and His Unique Perspective on Life
Chad Brown, a renowned professional poker player and member of the PokerStars team, has been battling a rare form of cancer, liposarcoma, for four years. In a recent blog post, he revealed his health struggles, noting that his weight loss due to intestinal obstruction made him look worse than he actually felt.
Brown is currently at the Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York after his fifth surgery. Over the past four years, he has undergone several radiation therapies, various forms of chemotherapy, and other treatments. Despite these challenges, Brown hopes for new medications currently in development.
Brown's approach to life and health struggles is reminiscent of his poker strategy. He emphasizes the importance of making the best choices and accepting the outcomes, comparing his situation to a poker hand. He placed 26th in the main tournament at the Borgata Winter Open in January, demonstrating his continued involvement in the poker community. Brown is planning to participate in a tournament in Los Angeles if his health allows and is currently playing high-stakes poker on PokerStars.net.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
