Betfred Refuses to Pay £1.7 Million Jackpot Winner — Case Heads to High Court
Andy Green won a £1.7 million jackpot playing the mobile app version of ‘Frankie Dettori’s Magic Seven Blackjack’ for more than 6 hours in 2018. Betfred initially congratulated Green but later refused to pay out, claiming the app malfunctioned. Green's lawyer Peter Coyle described the sum offered as “an insult” and stated that Betfred is doing themselves no favors by not paying out to a punter who won in good faith.
The case is set to go before a High Court judge two and a half years after the win and two years after Green launched his legal action against Betfred. Betfred offered Green £60,000 along with £2,500 as reimbursement for ‘costs incurred in his celebrations’ if he signed a non-disclosure agreement.
Green's lawyer Peter Coyle stated that if the two parties agree on the evidence, the judge can make a summary judgment on the case. If they can’t agree, Green might still have his day in court with a jury, but it is a “high risk strategy” says Green’s lawyer.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
