Andrew Cuomo Announces Plan to Legalize Online Sports Betting in New York
Governor Andrew Cuomo has decided to legalize online sports betting in the state. The decision was announced after the state budget for 2022 was approved, which includes tax revenues from the online betting industry.
Cuomo initially slowed down the legalization process to give offline gambling establishments in the northern part of the state a chance to recover from the pandemic. The New York Lottery will regulate the gambling market, similar to the model used in New Jersey.
Some political rivals have criticized Cuomo's plan, citing a lack of competition. However, Cuomo believes that the prospects for online gambling are much broader, which is why he decided to legalize it.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
