Aleksey Ponyakov Wins WSOP 2022 Bracelet Against Phil Ivey

The WSOP 2022 no-limit hold'em tournament with a $100,000 buy-in started on the previous Sunday. Last year, the tournament had 64 participants and was won by Michael Addamo, who received $1,958,569. Nikita Bodiakovskii finished in 8th place last year, earning $217,274. Michael Addamo started defending his title from the first level. Other notable players included Freddy Deeb, Dan Smith, Chris Brewer, Chans Cornut, and online star Aleksey Ponyakov.

Jason Koon was the first to re-enter the tournament, and many budgets were spared by allowing only one re-entry. Aleksey Ponyakov doubled his stack against Michael Addamo with AKo against AQo. Dan Smith shared his impressions of playing against Michael Addamo on Twitter. Dan Smith sent Michael Addamo to re-enter the tournament after a preflop showdown. Michael Addamo was eliminated by Japanese player Masashi Oya at the beginning of level 8.

Another Japanese player, Kazuhiko Yotsushika, won a big pot against Nikita Bodiakovskii. Nikita Bodiakovskii was eliminated after a preflop showdown with Matthew Gonzalez. Masashi Oya finished the first day as the chip leader with 2,765,000 chips. Aleksey Ponyakov finished the first day in second place with 2,490,000 chips. Phil Ivey, who returned to the tournament simultaneously with Michael Addamo, finished the day in 10th place with 1,410,000 chips. The tournament was originally planned to last three days, but the 40-minute levels made it very fast-paced, and the bracelet winner was determined by the end of the second day. A total of 62 entries were made, slightly fewer than the 64 from the previous year. The second day consisted mainly of preflop all-ins, with players dropping out rapidly. Nikita Bodiakovskii joined the group of leaders by winning a big 3-bet pot with a set against Nick Petrangelo. Aleksey Ponyakov sent Dan Smith to the rail with a preflop all-in. Phil Ivey eliminated Jason Koon from the game with a strong hand of pocket queens. Aleksey Ponyakov won the bracelet at the WSOP 2022.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
