ACMA Blocks 10 Illegal Gambling Sites in Latest Crackdown

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has blocked 10 illegal gambling websites in Australia as part of its latest enforcement action. The regulator has been actively targeting unauthorized gambling websites, with a total of 1,774 operators and affiliate websites blocked since November 2019.

The latest blocking order affects websites such as Zizobet, KingAUD, Lucky Vibe, Daily Spins, Gambiva, Pokies99, and Hot Pokies Group, which ACMA argues have been operating without a license or offering unauthorized products. The blocking orders are issued to enforce compliance with the Interactive Gambling Act 2001, which governs all regulated gambling in the country.

Since the introduction of new gambling rules, 230 services have voluntarily left the Australian market, with many being prominent international operators concerned about potential issues with their overseas licenses. ACMA has also warned Australians about the risks of connecting to offshore gambling websites, including financial losses and data breaches. In May, ACMA blocked six other illegal gambling websites. Additionally, ACMA targeted MMA fighter Jamie Mullarkey for promoting an illegal gambling service and warned him against such behavior.
