2013 WSOP Main Event: Anton Morgenstern's Rise and Fall on Day 7

The sixth day of the 2013 World Series of Poker Main Event was shortened to four levels due to the fast pace. Anton Morgenstern led the final day of the 2013 World Series of Poker Main Event with 21,955,000 chips.

On the first level of the seventh day, Anton Morgenstern eliminated Steve Gee on the first level of the seventh day, but his performance was marred by a series of poor decisions. He lost his stack on the third level of the seventh day, finishing in 20th place.

Mark Newhaus became the chip leader for a short period after eliminating Anton Morgenstern. Jason Alexander lost his stack after a series of aggressive moves, finishing in 19th place. Eugene Timoshenko finished the tournament in 22nd place. David Benefield increased his stack to 19 million chips by the 32nd level.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
