YouTube Greenlights Poker: Streamers Can Now Link to Poker Rooms

YouTube has updated its policy to allow poker streamers to include links to poker rooms in video descriptions. This change comes after months of conflict and blocked videos. Throughout the first half of 2023, poker streamers faced numerous issues with YouTube, including deleted and blocked videos. Jamie Staples even collected a collective appeal to YouTube regarding the blocking of poker videos.

YouTube representative Lester Chen announced the policy change regarding gambling content. He stated that the platform has reviewed its stance on gambling and now allows creators to include links to poker rooms in their video descriptions, provided they meet certain criteria. To include poker room links, creators must be certified by YouTube or Google Ads and meet certain standards. The poker room must have a license, which Google will verify. The video with the advertisement or link must be marked 18+ and Responsibility Game. Additionally, poker must be legalized in the creator's country for them to include poker room links.

Jamie Staples, a prominent figure in the poker streaming community, expressed his gratitude to Lester Chen for the policy change. He stated that this decision allows for the creation of poker content on YouTube and ensures that future generations will see poker content on the platform. With this change, YouTube could become a serious competitor to Twitch, which is currently the primary platform for streamers.
