WSOP 2023 Kicks Off with Tribute to Poker Legend Doyle Brunson
The World Series of Poker 2023 began with a silent memorial for Doyle Brunson, a 10-time WSOP bracelet winner who passed away at the age of 89. The memorial took place before the start of the $25,000 NL 6-Max High Roller event, where many of Brunson's peers and colleagues were in attendance, including Phil Hellmuth and Daniel Negreanu.
Doyle Brunson's agent, Brian Balsbaugh, announced his passing on May 14th, 2023. In a statement, the Brunson family described Doyle as a beloved Christian man, husband, father, and grandfather. They requested prayers for Doyle and their family as they honor his legacy.
Brunson's career spanned decades, with his first WSOP bracelet win in 1976 and his last in 2005. He made a total of 26 final tables at the WSOP, with 37 cashes. His contributions to the poker world will be remembered and honored throughout the 2023 WSOP.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
