WSOP 2014: Records, Drama, and High-Stakes Action
The World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2014 was a whirlwind of excitement and records. The Millionaire Maker tournament with a $1,500 buy-in attracted 7,977 players, making it the second-highest attendance in offline poker history. The veterans tournament, for players over 50, saw 4,425 participants, breaking the previous record of 4,407.
Dominik Nitsche won a bracelet in the $1,000 tournament, defeating 2,042 opponents. Phil Hellmuth Jr. lost in the heads-up final of tournament #6, a $1,500 razz event. Despite his loss, Hellmuth offered a unique opportunity for fans: a meeting with himself for $16,700, including a short conversation, autograph, and photo during the WSOP.
Daniel Negreanu finished second in the 2-7 tournament, losing the bracelet to Paul Volpe. Negreanu's performance was closely watched, with many fans and players placing bets on his success. Phil Ivey, on the other hand, expressed frustration after being eliminated from a tournament, stating he would watch a movie to relax.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
