WPT World Online Championship: Real Names, Big Prizes, and New Rules
The World Poker Tour (WPT) World Online Championship is set to begin on July 18, 2024, and will run until September 8, 2024. This marks the second collaboration between World Poker Tour and PartyPoker, following the success of the previous WPT Online series, which saw over 111,000 players participate in 94 tournaments.
One of the key changes in this year's championship is the requirement for players to compete under their real names. This decision aims to make the online events more akin to live tournaments, where players' identities are known. PartyPoker's leadership believes that knowing who is at the table adds to the authenticity and excitement of the game.
The total prize pool for the WPT World Online Championship is an impressive $100 million. The series will feature a variety of tournaments with different buy-in levels, ranging from mini and micro tournaments with buy-ins as low as $33 to high-stakes events with buy-ins in the thousands. Additionally, the top performers will compete for a share of $100,000 in leaderboard prizes across two categories.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
