Women in Poker Make Historic Strides in 2025
2025 was a remarkable year for women in poker, marked by several historic achievements and record-breaking performances. Female players made significant strides in prestigious tournaments, challenging the traditional narrative and demonstrating their skill and resilience.
Leo Margets, a Spanish professional, made headlines by becoming the first woman to reach the final table of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event in 30 years. Her journey was nothing short of extraordinary. Margets navigated a massive field of 9,735 runners and finished in 7th place, securing a payout of about $1.5 million. This achievement was the highest WSOP Main Event score by a woman in history.
Natasha Mercier, an American pro, delivered one of the most impressive performances by a woman in 2025. At the WSOP Paradise $25,000 Super Main Event, Mercier reached the final table and finished in 6th place, earning a $1.8 million payday. Her performance was emotional and memorable, as she battled through multiple tough streets before being eliminated near the end. This run also landed her second on the 2025 female money list, behind only Kristen Foxen.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
