Why Poker Solvers Love the A5s Hand: A Deep Dive
The hand A5s is favored by poker solvers due to its unique combination of positive characteristics. It is one of the few hands that possesses multiple positive traits, making it a standout choice in various situations.
A5s cannot be beaten by a lower straight on the flop, which is a significant advantage. Additionally, A5s can flop a straight-flush or a straight with a nut flush-draw, adding to its versatility. This hand has a nut flush-draw and does not block weaker flushes in opponents' ranges, allowing it to be on the right side of coolers and take down stacks from weaker flushes, including second nuts.
A5s often wins the pot by hitting top pair or even without a pair. For example, if you have a flush-draw and nothing is bought by the river, you might still take the pot because your opponent has a weaker flush-draw. The small kicker in A5s does not intersect with the opponent's range and does not block potential bluffs, making it a strong hand in various scenarios. A5s is a suited connector that can hit a strong top pair and has ideal blockers and unblockers, collecting straights and flushes. This hand has a higher EV than AQo, KTs, 65s, and QJs in certain situations, making it a preferred choice for solvers.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
