Three Unbelievable Lottery Wins That Happened in One Week
In the span of just one week during Christmas 2021, three lottery players in the United States experienced some of the most unusual wins ever recorded. These wins were so extraordinary that they made headlines across the country.
One of the most remarkable stories involves Alexander McLeish, a Massachusetts man who was recovering from open-heart surgery. A friend bought him three lottery scratchcards as a get-well-soon gift. While alone, McLeish revealed the letters A, W, and M on the first card, which matched his initials. The next word revealed was “HEART,” a poignant omen given his recent surgery. He went on to win the second-highest prize available, $1,000,000.
Another surprising win came from Scotty Thomas, a dump-truck driver from Fayetteville. Thomas won not one but two $25,000 for life prizes from two $2 Lucky for Life lottery tickets. He initially bought the first ticket on his smartphone while watching a basketball game and couldn’t remember if he had bought the second one the next day. When he realized he had won both, he was left in disbelief.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
