Poker players and athletes are known for their bold moves, but some bets take the cake. Here are some of the most unusual wagers made by individuals in the poker and sports communities.
Boxing Match Bet
A boxing match between Olivier Bousquet and JC Alvarado was agreed upon in October 2015 and took place in 2016. JC, who was significantly lighter than Olivier, bet $150k against Olivier's $120k. Despite the weight difference, JC acknowledged his loss gracefully, congratulating Olivier on his victory.
Bryan Zembic's Breast Implant Bet
Bryan Zembic, known as 'The Magician,' agreed to have breast implants for a year to win $100,000 in 1996. This bet, worth $170,000 in today's dollars, was one of the most unusual wagers in history. Zembic decided to keep the implants even after winning the bet, finding them aesthetically pleasing.
Phil Hellmuth's Three-Pointer Shot
Phil Hellmuth made a three-pointer shot without warming up, winning $15,000. The bet was made with Daeg Polk, Tonkaaaa, and Todd Anderson, who gave Hellmuth 10 to 1 odds that he couldn't make the shot in one attempt without warming up.
Antonio Esfandiari's No-Sex Bet
Antonio Esfandiari agreed to a year without sex for $500,000 but backed out after nine days. Esfandiari, known for his daring bets, also attempted a no-carbohydrate bet for a year, backing out after just 1.5 hours.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
