UK Gambling Commission Fines Betfred, Ohio Proposes Sweeping Betting Restrictions
The UK Gambling Commission has taken a strong stance against regulatory failures, imposing a significant fine on Petfre (Gibraltar) Limited, the operator of Betfred in the UK. The fine, amounting to £900,000 ($1.2m), was levied following a probe that uncovered social responsibility failures. Despite the sanctions, the Commission acknowledged the licensee's swift efforts to address the identified deficiencies.
In a separate move, the Commission sought input from licensed operators on reducing regulatory burdens. This initiative aims to ensure that consumer protections remain in place while lessening the regulatory burden on licensed gambling operators.
Across the Atlantic, the state of Ohio is considering sweeping reforms to its online gambling sector. Bill HB 971 proposes significant limitations, including banning online betting, prohibiting college wagering, prop and parlay bets, and setting a $100 wager limit per user. These proposed changes aim to reshape the landscape of online gambling in Ohio, potentially impacting both operators and players.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
