Twitch Streamer's Gambling Addiction Sparks Debate on Platform's Policies
ItsSlikeR, a Twitch streamer with around 430,000 subscribers, signed a contract with Team Liquid in June 2020. However, the partnership ended in April 2021 amid ItsSlikeR's struggles with gambling addiction. ItsSlikeR has around $300,000 in gambling debts, which he admitted to losing on sports betting. He also confessed to lying to his viewers about his gambling habits.
ItsSlikeR's situation has sparked a debate among other streamers about Twitch's gambling policies. Pokimane, a prominent streamer, has long advocated for stricter anti-gambling measures on the platform. xQc, another high-profile streamer, has also admitted to his own struggles with gambling addiction. In a podcast with Pokimane, xQc revealed that he had lost $1.85 million in an online casino in just one month.
Many poker players have expressed concerns that poker could be banned if Twitch implements stricter gambling policies. Jamie Staples, a poker player, created a video explaining the differences between poker and other forms of gambling. He argued that poker is a game of skill where players compete against each other, unlike slot machines, which are based on predetermined algorithms. Trainwrecks, a streamer who was scammed by ItsSlikeR for $100,000, also supports a reasonable approach to gambling on Twitch.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
