Tom Dwan Bails on $800,000 High Stakes Poker Rematch with Phil Hellmuth
In a surprising turn of events, Tom Dwan has withdrawn from his highly anticipated $800,000 high-stakes poker rematch against Phil Hellmuth. The withdrawal was announced by PokerGO, citing a schedule conflict as the reason.
Dwan is notable for being the only player to have defeated Hellmuth in the High Stakes Duel format. Hellmuth, known as the Poker Brat, had previously whitewashed both Antonio Esfandiari and Daniel Negreanu in the same format, taking $350,000 from each of them.
Despite Dwan's withdrawal, the show will go on. Hellmuth will face a new, yet unannounced opponent in the PokerGO studios on May 17. The identity of the new challenger will be revealed on May 16 during The Weigh-In.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
