Super High Roller Tournament in Australia: Drama and High Stakes
The Super High Roller tournament in Australia started with Chinese poker. The organizers aimed to set record numbers, similar to the recent tournament on the Bahamas, and delayed the start by an hour. David Oppenheim and Gus Hansen used this time wisely, both losing $100,000 Australian dollars in the tournament.
When the late registration period ended, it was revealed that the number of participants matched that of the PCA tournament, with both having 38 players. The participants included Daniel 'jungleman12' Cates, James 'ANDY MCLEOD' Obst, David Benjamin, Justin 'BoostedJ' Smith, Sorel Mizzis, and Masaki Kagawa. Notably, there was only one millionaire, two high rollers, and three online professionals among them.
Nikolai Evdakov and Alexander Kostritsin represented Russia in the tournament. Evdakov had a strong start, winning significant pots against Joe Hachem and Tony G. Kostritsin, despite a challenging beginning, managed to win two all-ins and build a substantial stack. However, both players eventually exited the tournament. The finalists included David Benjamin, Tony Bloom, Chris Ferguson, Sam Trickett, James 'ANDY MCLEOD' Obst, Jeffrey Lisandro, Erik Seidel, and David Steyke.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
