Steve Sang: Poker Legend Reveals His Journey from Seoul to Vegas

Steve Sang, a prominent figure in the poker world, has had a remarkable career filled with both tournament successes and high-stakes cash games. One of his most notable achievements was winning a 6-max tournament with a $25,000 buy-in at the 2013 World Series of Poker. His peak activity in online cash games occurred in 2008, although his results were not always stable due to his aggressive playing style.

In recent years, Steve Sang has focused more on offline games within the United States. At the end of last year, he won a low-buy-in tournament at Wynn Casino. Earlier this year, he placed third in the WPT Gardens tournament. His upcoming final table in Las Vegas marks a decade since his last WPT final.

Steve Sang was born in 1985 in Seoul, South Korea, and moved to the United States with his family when he was 7 years old. His father worked in a metallurgical company and was transferred to the US. The family initially planned to stay for only 5 years but ended up settling permanently. Steve Sang's family sold their business and moved without knowing English, hiring a tutor to help them learn the language before their move. They settled in Torrance, a suburb of Los Angeles, where Steve Sang still resides.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
