Steve Albini: 40 Years of Music and Poker Legend
Steve Albini, a key figure in the music and poker worlds, passed away in May 2024. Albini was a two-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) winner and a renowned sound engineer who recorded seminal works for bands such as Nirvana and Pixies.
Born in California in 1962, Albini moved to Missoula, Montana, as a child. His grandmother taught him how to play poker, and he continued to play throughout his life. In the 1980s, Albini founded the innovative noise-rock band Big Black and later opened Electrical Audio, a studio where he recorded hundreds of artists.
Albini's poker winnings helped fund his studio and music career. He was a key figure in a weekly poker game in Chicago, often held at his studio. After his death, the game has paused, and his friends are adjusting to a world without him.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
