Spanish Poker Players Strike Against Poor Regulation and Market Decline
Spanish poker players are on strike today, protesting against poor regulation and the decline of the .es market. The hashtag #14MayoSinPokerOnline has gained traction on social media, with many players planning to avoid online poker today.
The Spanish online poker sector is facing one of its toughest moments since the implementation of the Gaming Law in June 2012. The Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ) has not acted to prevent the industry's decline, leading to a significant drop in guaranteed prizes and traffic.
Meanwhile, Portugal has approved a law that opens its borders to the rest of the world and ensures taxation falls on operators rather than players. This has led many Spanish players to consider moving to Portugal, while others are pushing for better conditions and international liquidity in Spain.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
