Spain's Supreme Court Challenges Ban on Gambling Ads
The Supreme Court of Spain has challenged the constitutionality of the ban on gambling advertisements. The ban, known as the Garzón Law, was introduced in September 2021 and regulates gambling advertisements in the media and sports.
The Supreme Court's third chamber considered an appeal filed by the Spanish Association of Digital Gaming (JDigital) against the royal order. The court believes the law may limit lawmakers' ability to impose restrictions on advertising, particularly gambling promotions.
The royal decree prohibits advertisements between 1 AM and 5 AM and allows for up to six months of suspension of commercial activity and sanctions for operators of up to €1 million ($1.01 million). Alberto Garzón, Spain's Minister of Consumption, strongly supported the royal edict banning gaming advertising.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
