Poker Player Scott Robbins Sues Borgata Casino Over Lifetime Ban
Scott Robbins, a poker player, is suing Borgata Casino for banning him for life after a joke. Robbins is seeking over a million dollars in compensation, claiming the casino violated his civil rights. The incident occurred when Robbins was checking into the Borgata Hotel to play in the WPT Borgata Poker Open Main Event.
During the check-in process, a clerk asked Robbins which floor he preferred. Robbins responded with a joke about jumping out of a window during a fire or earthquake. The hotel employee asked Robbins not to do that, to which Robbins replied, "Well, if I'm not going to survive anyway, it doesn't matter which floor I'm on." Robbins then went to his room and began unpacking.
Shortly after, security personnel entered Robbins' room and insisted he go to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation. After a successful evaluation, Robbins returned to the hotel, only to find out he was permanently banned from the casino. The reason given for the ban was a "suicide attempt." Robbins was outraged and filed a lawsuit against Borgata Casino, seeking $850,000 in compensation for lost earnings and $200,000 for emotional distress. Robbins has won over $400,000 in live poker tournaments at Borgata Casino since 2018.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
