Säm Grinvud Reflects on Costly Mistakes at Triton Montenegro
Poker professional Säm Grinvud is set to return to Montenegro for the Triton poker series, which runs from May 12 to 26, 2025. Grinvud has fond memories of the location, noting that the casino is situated right on the ocean shore and that he has always had good luck in tournaments there, especially after taking a dip in the ocean before they begin.
In his previous visit to Montenegro in 2019, Grinvud participated in three tournaments, including the main event, and made it to the final table in all of them. However, his performance was marred by several costly mistakes. In the first tournament, Grinvud was the chip leader on the bubble but lost to Steve O’Dwyer after pushing with Q9s against O’Dwyer’s pocket kings. In the third tournament, he was eliminated on the bubble by Leon Tsukernik. Despite these setbacks, Grinvud managed to make it to the final table in the main NLHE tournament after pushing with QJs against Danny Tang’s pocket aces.
One of the most significant mistakes Grinvud made during the tournament was in a hand against Nikita. With K6s, Grinvud made a value bet on the river, only to have Nikita call with QQ. Grinvud reflected on this mistake, noting that his value bet was not only fundamentally flawed but also made Nikita’s call seem justified. He acknowledged that his preflop and postflop play was not optimal and that he should have considered the implications of his actions more carefully.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
